Agenda Item #24

Item Title
C-23 Out of state travel required to maintain certification in the MOVE program for ESE Employees.

Issue/Rationale

Clay County's adopted program to assist our students with severe disabilities acquire motor skills is the Mobility Opportunities via Education (MOVE) program.  This program is designed to use education as a means to systematically gain the physical skills necessary to sit independently, bear weight or take reciprocal steps, reduce the time requirements for tasks, and provide the foundation for other skills such as expressive language.

Trainers must re-certify every four years to maintain their credential.  Training is only available in Bakersfield, California.  MOVE training is crucial for those serving our most fragile students, including students with significant Intellectual Disabilities.  Having our own personnel certified to conduct this training is much more cost effective than bringing in an outside training agency.

Recommended Action
Approve Out of State Travel required to maintain certification in the MOVE program.

Financial Impact
The investment for this re-certification is approximately $7,500.00.  Funds have been provided in the IDEA grant toward this purpose.
